It's been a couple of weeks since we opened the application process for the start-up competition at this year's LeWeb3 conference and we have had great response! This year's competition will have space for 30 companies on the start-up stage. All of those companies will present in front of our panel of judges, which to-date includes: Saul Klein, Index Ventures; Erik Stuart, eBay; Chris Shipley, Guidewire Group; Jason Calacanis, Mahalo; Julien Cordornieu, Microsoft as well as Om Malik and Michael Arrington. We will be confirming a slew of additional judges in the next several days so keep your eyes on this space for more details.
Each of the 30 companies will get 7 minutes to present. They will be restricted to showing only 5-7 slides (if they use Powerpoint at all), and unless it's impossible to do so, the session also should include a demonstration of the product/service. If you miss the company presentation on stage, you can visit them in a small exhibit area that we will set up in the LeWeb3 networking lounge.
After the day of competition on December 11, the judges' scores will be tallied and we will select three winners. Those winners will be announced from the main stage on the morning of December 11 during a session in which the judges will discuss the trends and themes they saw from the presentations the day before.
In terms of the criteria for submitting an application, it's pretty simple. If you have an early-stage start-up that will have some news to share in early December - that can be a product launch or a company launch - you're welcome to apply. And it's simple to do so. Go to this form, fill it out, and you're on your way!
